Chicago Tribune Endorses James Leonard Allegretti over Janet Cronin Mahoney  for Cook County Circuit Judge, 12th Subcircuit

12th subcircuit (Mathein vacancy): James Leonard Allegretti has been practicing law since 1978, focusing on personal injury, criminal and workers’ compensation cases, and was a Park Ridge alderman from 2005-11. “He’s our pick…over Janet Cronin Mahoney,”states the Editorial Board of the Chicago Tribune .

In response to the Editorial Board’s question asking why Mr. Allegretti is qualified for the position of Cook County Circuit Judge, 12th Subcircuit, he responded:

“A good Judge needs lots of experience in life and in the court room,. He needs a love of the law and a desire to help his fellow citizens. He must understand people, the dynamics of a trial court and the law. My life and legal history have prepared me for the position of Circuit Court Judge.” Mr. Allegretti further validated his experience with his exceptional Martindale-Hubbel rating by his peers:

“I was reviewed by Martindale-Hubbel (evaluating lawyers for other lawyers for over 100 years) in 1997. That is a rating you cannot buy or ask for and you do not know you are being evaluated. Since 1997, Martindale-Hubbel has rated me AV, signifying the highest possible peer review rating in legal ethics and legal ability.”

In addition to the Chicago Tribune Endorsement, Mr. Allegretti was found qualified or recommended by all evaluating bar associations for the position of Circuit Court Judge, while his opponent was found Not Qualified by the Illinois State Bar Association.

The Chicago Bar Association, the Chicago Council of Lawyers and other bar groups perform a valuable public service by screening and rating judicial candidates. In making endorsements, the Tribune relies on their work and our own research.

The bar association evaluations are a voter’s best guide to the long list of unfamiliar names at the bottom of the ballot.

Fair Minded, Ethical, and Focused

ALLEGRETTI-JAMESJames Leonard Allegretti (R): Positive ratings. Allegretti is “recommended” or “qualified” by all bar groups. The CCL wrote that Allegretti is “civil, even in difficult cases.” He has extensive courtroom experience. Allegretti is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell, an unbiased peer review signifying the highest legal abilities and professional ethic, since 1997.

The Illinois State Bar Association, found his opponent “not qualified,” raising concern at her “limited trial court experience and her lack of recent non-appellate litigation.”
